Elves In My Garden

It's been awhile since we've watched Hailey and Makayla. Today was a beautiful spring day and I spent a lot of the day working in the yard.  When I picked Makayla and Hailey up, they couldn't wait to be outside. What could be more natural than sunshine, water, plants, two adorable little girls, and grandma with a camera? So excuse the hundreds of pictures--it was just one of those perfect, picture-taking days.

We pulled out the bikes. Hailey, girl of disturbingly accurate and astounding memory, recounted to me in great detail how her daddy bought her this bike and put it together for her.  All true. That was more than two years ago. Now why can't she remember to flush the toilet?

Hailey and Makayla carefully checked every tulip in the yard for dangerous bumble bees.  They found a few that sent them both shrieking.

The girls had a great deal of fun planting flowers with me.

As you can see, Makayla got a new and improved hairdo since last time you saw her.
Oh wait. Nope, that's still the old, electrifying do.

We planted several dozen begonias together.

Hailey, big sister extraordinaire, patiently showed Makayla how to pat the dirt around the newly planted flower.

It wasn't long until these two moved on to that cornerstone of childhood play--the hose.

They filled the dirty bird bath for the robins who were looking thirsty.
I hope this isn't the way bird flu is transmitted.

If you pour enough water into the birdbath, eventually it gets cleaner.

Then they moved to the sidewalk to leave some water for the thirsty dog they could hear barking behind the fence.

Makayla had fun rolling up the hose so they could unroll it again.

Makayla is irritated to discover full water cans are heavy.

But that didn't stop Hailey from refilling them.

A tongue is helpful when concentrating.

Hailey says the hose water is a little short of warm.

Amazing how water just keeps coming out of this thing

even when you move around with it.

We took a walk around the block and Hailey discovered the cattail we picked and put in the wagon pocket last September.  She wanted to know why it is called a cattail and not a monkey tail, a dog tail, or a chipmunk tail. Just so you know, she's not satisfied with the answer "Someone thought it looked like a cat's tail" or "I don't know".

Bunches of random pictures of cuteness.

Thanks for your help, girls!
